Locus
lo·cus n., pl. lo·ci
1. A locality or place.
2.
A center or focus of great activity or intense concentration.
This series explores similarities between body and landscape. The
body is removed from the intellectual realm and reconnected with
the soil. The images resemble skin that has been marred by birth
defects or scars and at the same time, aerial photography of a land
that is unknown yet recognizable. The organic surfaces continually
change and evolve, both naturally and unnaturally. The landscape
moves as the skin breathes. It may be subtle and go unnoticed, but
both are living and therefore growing.
These particular surfaces are indelibly branded with scars of the
past. They are an unforgettable remembrance. A man's actions can
cause the alteration of these surfaces. For example, war can permanently
transform the landscape, forever changing the natural habitation
and terrain, just as that same war can scar a man's skin. Both the
landscape and the skin bear the marks of these events.
