Opensewer 10 New York City Discussion Summary Wednesday,
August 10, 2001, 7:30 PM atScharmann's, By John P LaGreco, Opensewer Virgin Hello from New York, Although no one besides Tiona showed up, it was great to start going to OS gatherings. If everyone is a nice as Tiona then the group will be a pleasure to meet with. We discussed how badly we wanted to move on and continue being New Yorkers. The conversation included national security, profiling, personal fears and ignorance. After meeting each other and due to the low turn-out we decided to actually go down to Ground Zero at night. It was an eerie experience. The fires were still burning and the lights were on full blast. The smoke brightened by the lights made a ghost-like aura over the eight story pile of rubble. This vision created heartwrenching emotions that caused tears to roll. Tiona and myself walked around the area and I suddenly noticed that our black coats were blemished by ash. We then wondered what could be in that ash...asbestos, lead, plastics and even human remains. Perhaps the most painful sight was the barren sky that was once dominated by the dominating towers. I felt that this hurt Tiona because of her career as an architect. Even a month later this experience moved me back to the feelings that I had when it first happened. As I made my way home, I felt the progress that I made towards moving on was lost. Today is another day and I will start the progress of moving on again. Increase the Peace.
