STATEMENT
From
Juxtapoz magazine, 1998:
An
illustrator by trade, Jordin Isip is an artist who through his extensive
body of work has inadvertently become a sort of cultural archeologist.
Using bits and pieces of fragmented daily life--both physical and
mental--Isip plies together his multi-layered apparitions, creating
what may be described as a series of visual time capsules.
"I
like the ephemeral quality of using deteriorating materials I pick
up on the streets. New York is a big influence: the dirt, the grime,
the noise, the claustrophobia, and the litter. I'll take anything
interesting I find, like bits of magazine and newspaper, and form
them into shapes to incorporate in my work. I like to use the printed
colors that have been weathered, stepped on, and torn, rather than
just manufactured ones. I lay down pieces and paint over the layers
and rip them away to see what happens. Some of my most interesting
effects come about that way."
