I am greatly influenced by African masks and tribal face painting, particularly that of Native Americans. The act of the face being blemished or disguised to represent a community, group or gang is something I want to explore and I wish people to encounter in my paintings. This act, applied to a painting or photograph, gives me a sense of belonging.

Reaching a completed painting is often the outcome of several experimentations. I use a computer to manipulate an image; it allows reproduction and experimentation to evolve quickly and in vast amount, therefore the process of familiarising myself with an image is fast and is achieved without touching a canvas.

Drawing also plays an important role in my studio practise. I draw from the masters; Degas, Manet, Sargent, Vermeer and Caravaggio.
