The
works from 2000/2001 shown here are my efforts to resolve issues
essential to painting, such as color, composition, subject matter
and intention. In treating these ordinary photographs of friends
or family in a minimalist fashion, who or where the people are becomes
irrelevant for the audience. The figure foreground relationship
and color system create a super-flat image that exists to disrupt
and confuse the viewer, making it difficult to understand the physical
space and time the figures exist in. Paintings, like wallpaper is
destined to be hung on the wall for decoration. My more recent series
deals with issues of memory and the psychology of color.
