STATEMENT
There's
nothing quite as beautiful as the unintentional. For this reason
I've attempted - through the use of color, reference, placement
and most importantly, line - to capture, if just a fraction, of
the naiveté I see in my surroundings daily. My bright colors
and dark, brisk lines reflect moods of small children, brush-in-hand,
being told to concentrate and stay within the lines, by those marvelous
grade school teachers, who encouraged us all to produce masterpieces.
"There really is something that can be learned by the intellectual
perception of that which is still in its purest and naive form."
This
I believe is something that has slowly begun to diminish in our
society. Another very important constant that I attempt in my work
is referencing my memories of age 4-10. It was during those years
that I became fascinated with comics, dinosaurs, cars and monsters.
These memories and my heritage in Latin America helped me to seek
out a "primitive expression" of my world as a child.
After
studying fine art at the University of Utah and design at the Art
institute of Seattle, I began my career as both an Art Director
and a painter. It is through this knowledge of both popular and
primitive cultures that has lead me to produce the work that I do.
